Charles Plaza, an iconic public space developed for the 1960s urban renewal Charles Center project of downtown Baltimore, is seen here under re-construction. New plantings, benches and a fountain will be installed. The plaza covers an underground parking garage, making it one of the largest and earliest "green roof" projects in the city, conceived in the late 1950s.
