Anyone visiting Fells Point during the annual Privateer Day festivities might think they and all of Baltimore were endangered by pirates. In reality, the Pirate-themed festival celebrates the privateer – legal pirates who were mercenaries employed by the Federal government to help keep American waters safe from the British during colonial times.
This 8th Annual Privateer Day on Saturday, April 21st, featured food and craft vendors, live music by groups like The Brigands, Pirates For Sail and The Salty Dogs, plus many pirate impersonators, battle recreations, puppets and other children's activities, and a chance to visit ships like the Pride of Baltimore II, Lady Maryland and the infamous urban private party ship the Fearless.
