BMA Celebrates

As the first stage of planned $28 million renovation, The Baltimore Museum of Art (The BMA) recently reopened its Contemporary Wing, which has been outfitted with new lighting, new exhibition spaces and other features.

The wing originally opened in 1994, but will now have enhanced areas for its collection of contemporary masterworks by artists Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg and others. Significant additions include new a sound-proof black box gallery for multimedia art, as well as a new space designed for drawings and other works on paper by Matisse.

The changes were unveiled at a special Saturday night after-hours celebration.

In time for the BMA's 100th anniversary, the museum will reopen the historic Merrick Entrance and other renovated spaces in late 2014.
