The State of Maryland purchased these 855 acres of rocky forest in Harford County now known as Rocks State Park in 1949, and it did so to acquire and preserve the 190-foot high rock outcrop called the King and Queen Seat. Legend says the rock formation was a ceremonial gathering place for Susquehannock Indians.
The park also contains 3.5 miles of hiking trails and a waterway (Deer Creek), where visitors can wade and tube. Nearby is Kilgore Falls, Maryland’s second-highest vertical drop waterfall.
