Issac Newton Apple Tree

Baltimore is home to a descendant of the actual apple tree made famous by Sir Issac Newton. The original tree, whose falling apple inspired Newton to develop his ideas on gravity, is still alive in Lincolnshire, England, after 400 years, and dozens of descendants have found their way to universities, research centers and botanical gardens. Baltimore’s Issac Newton Apple Tree is at Johns Hopkins University’s Homewood campus, near the Homewood House, and it was donated by Hopkins alum and professor (and former Hollywood actor) John Astin and his wife Valerie Sandobal.
