It wasn’t easy trying to celebrate a birthday during the COVID-19 pandemic in May, when all of the city was still under a stay at home order. However, when I decided I wanted a burger, and a learned that the Charles Village Pub had just opened for take out orders, the day became very special. I found their carryout menu online, and I ordered my Big Daddy special (complete with cheese, bacon and a side order of fries). As I expected, just as I finished my walk there from home, I got the call that my order was ready and available at their window. Then it was onto a quiet spot on the nearby and virtually student-free Hopkins Homewood campus to enjoy it alfresco, but still being socially distant from any strangers.
