Everything’s in Cambridge

There’s more to the quaint waterfront Eastern Shore town of Cambridge than you could imagine. It’s one of the oldest of Maryland colonies (it celebrated its 330th anniversary this year), and it somehow never seems to never be far away from the spotlight. Yes, brick-paved streets, picture-perfect vintage homes and churches, delightful shops and restaurants, and an incredible marina help to create this town’s heritage (it was added to the national list of Historic Districts in 1990), but there’s much more that's happened here too...

Cambridge was home to civil rights activists and location civil rights struggles, from Harriet Tubman through the Black Panthers in the 1960s. It’s also been the site of presidential political moments too, from a riverboat visit by Franklin Roosevelt to speech delivered by George W. Bush.

For fun, the Philips seafood family traces its roots to Cambridge, which explains why good seafood is always available. And, believe it or not, entertainers have been nurtured here too, from author John Barth to actress Bea Arthur and rap artist Jay-Z. In recent years Cambridge has also been a stop for Ironman competition athletes.

Finally, for nature lovers, Cambridge is just 10 miles from the Backwater National Wildlife Refuge, helping to make the whole area a great day-trip from Baltimore.

(For a tasty seafood treat, visit the family-owned Snappers Waterfront Cafe and ask for the crab nachos.)
