Severely damaged by two deadly floods between 2016 and 2018, Elliott City continues its heritage of survival and commerce. The low-lying city core is located close to the Patapsco River, so severe flooding seems to occur at least once every generation, but the quaint and resilient combination of shops, restaurants and other historic buildings along or near Main Street remain an ever-popular day-trip destination, less than 30 minutes southwest from Baltimore City.
