Hundreds of people come to participate and to watch Baltimore's annual St. Patrick Parade, usually held the Sunday before the holiday. The city's large Irish Catholic community guarantees a large parade and attendance, and it also means that the Baltimore Basilica (the nation's first Catholic cathderal, located a block away from the parade route) will hold a special mass or two in honor of the event.
