Heide Grundmann’s Trail

Heide Grundmann, who died earlier this year at the age of 82, was such an important friend of Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park that she has a trail named after her. A resident of the nearby Ten Hills community for many years, she became of an advocate for not only the parks, but also the Edmonson Village branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library, Thomas Jefferson Elementary School and West Baltimore Middle School, as reported in her Baltimore Sun obituary. However, it was her interest in the 1,200-acre park, known as the second largest woodland park in the United States, for which she will be remembered. She helped in the fight to keep Interstate 70 from cutting through the park, she was a founder of the Friends of Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park organization, she worked to connect biking and hiking trails to Baltimore’s network of trails, and she enjoyed providing personalized walking tours along the trails. (She is seen here leading a 2016 hike donated to the Online Auction for Center Stage.)
